NFL Fantasy Football
Team Defenses

There are two stages of thought when it comes to select a team defense for your fantasy football team:

Should you draft Baltimore or Chicago’s defense or not?

If you find yourself asking this question, remember not to overvalue these two teams with a top five-round pick.  Odds are that one or both of them will likely be drafted in the sixth or seventh round of your draft.  If you cannot find another player of equal worth at this point, don’t be afraid to take one of these two defenses.  Baltimore and Chicago have the capability to score a lot of fantasy football points and can be the difference between you winning a week’s match-up or losing it.

I don’t want to draft that high for one of those two defenses.

If you would rather load up on skilled positions than use a top 10 draft pick on a defense, go ahead and do so.  When it comes to your defense, you will want to have two of them by the time that you are ready to start at week one.  This doesn’t mean that you should draft two defenses.  You should start by drafting the best available defense shortly after round 10.  This should be a team that is good at creating sacks or turnovers.  Wait till free agency before you acquire the second defense.  Take a look at your number one defense’s schedule.  The games that are against bad match-ups should be avoided.  Look for a defense in free agency with a good match-up with the opposing offense for those particular weeks.  If this is done effectively, you will not need a great defense to be able to win your fantasy football league.
